_ABILITIES: Ion is a Methuselah which, no matter how much he hates the name, is basically a vampire.
He is much stronger than his small frame would suggest, capable of punching a hole through a man's chest without too much trouble.
All Methuselah have the ability to 'haste,' or 'accelerate,' giving them a burst of speed faster than the ordinary human eye can follow, and Ion is noted to be the best at it in the Empire.
Apart from his weaknesses, Ion is practically immortal. He is tough enough to shrug off most drugs, regenerates well enough that severed limbs can be reattached without so much as a thread and needle, and if nothing kills him, he will live for about three hundred years. Destroying his brain or heart will still do the trick.
On the other hand, Methuselah all have certain weaknesses. Direct sunlight will burn them to a crisp in seconds, and silver is extremely dangerous to them. A silver knife through the heart will kill them, and a bolt tipped with silver nitrate can leave them bedridden.
They also require human blood to survive. With significant blood-loss, their 'Thirst' may take over their bodies, a physical impulse to feed that may have them jumping anyone close by.
_PERSONALITY: Ion is a proud boyar, or noble, of the New Human Empire, and despite his relative youth can be considered an exemplar of his people. He strives to present the Empire's best face to all, with great loyalty and a strong sense of noblesse oblige. However, he is still a young man who can be short-tempered and ruled by his emotions.
Ion is a man who is capable of great love. His dedication to and faith in them are unquestionable, always ready to fly to their defence whether or not they love him in return. When the royal court of the Empire accused him of murder and treason, he still continued to act in its defence, dedicating everything to protecting the Empress. When his closest friend Radu betrayed him, Ion still believed in their friendship, that even if Radu was walking down the wrong path full of anger and hatred, that their bond could never be broken. When news came to him that his first love Esther had been named Lady-Saint for killing a "vampire," Ion immediately dismissed the story as a lie, for he knew her better than that. It can be considered his strongest trait.
Ion has a strong sense of pride and responsibility, as befitting a noble who can be expected to rule. This is to the point where he took responsibility for Radu's mistakes, believing that they happened because Ion failed to notice his frustrations, and made sure to be there personally to fight him. Ion does not shy away from it at all, asking Esther to stay in the Empire with him, believing he is the one best suited to defending her from the harshness of the outside, (but also just because he's in love with her.)
This also manifests as a strong sense of justice. Despite his aforementioned love for Radu, Ion chose to oppose his plans every step of the way, and even though he has little love for the people outside the Empire, was horrified when it was suggested that they should abandon the people of Carthage to more easily accomplish their mission, believing that the priests of the Vatican should do everything to defend their own people.
All of this is backed by great willpower. He finds the inner strength to soldier on no matter how difficult things seem, especially with the backing of good friends. It is to the point that he can suppress the all-consuming 'Thirst' of the Methuselah long enough to make the choice to stab himself rather than give in to his monstrous urge.
However, he is emotionally-driven and impulsive, prone to brooding and angry outbursts. It is something that he is growing out of, but he is still a young man. It manifests as a noted tendency to charge straight ahead in battle, even though that leaves him open to counter-attacks. He is also just of a tsundere, easily angered but also easily mollified, a trait which provides endless amusement for his grandmother.
He has three important relationships worth noting: The previously mentioned Radu Barvon, Mirka Fortuna, and Esther Blanchett.
Radu was his best friend, or tovarisch, the Russian word for 'comrade,' used in the Empire to denote a strong bond of comradeship. While Radu may have betrayed him and claimed to have hated him, his last action in life was to sacrifice himself to protect Ion from the light of the rising sun; and their bond was strong enough that even when his corpse was turned into a puppet by Dietrich, Radu still broke through to protect Ion one last time. Radu is his tovarisch now and forever, and while Ion has and will have other friends, none will ever come close to him.
Mirka Fortuna is his grandmother, the woman who raised him from youth when his mother died in childbirth. She is very old, and very sharp, but also usually childish and wilful, occasionally treating Ion like a doll. Women like her are his weakness.
While Ion first met Esther on hostile terms, they had to work together and he grew to admire her forward-looking nature. She is his dear friend, and in many ways his goal, for he has a huge crush on her and wishes to grow strong enough that he can ask her to stay with him with pride before she grows old.
